Treneff, Catrett and Moyer set up the drums and equipment as the audience waited on their toes. I got as close to Treneff as I could before the piercing sound of Catrett’s electric guitar blasted through the speakers, letting everyone know the show was about to begin.

The Peace Cult band is an alternative/indie group of young adults who began growing their popularity in the beginning of 2022. The trio call themselves Peace Cult, meaning they identify themselves and their music to be non-religious, yet following rules of spreading unity and peace throughout the pop-punk genre.

Emma Treneff is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, with lead guitarist Colton Catrett and drummer Marina Moyer. Peace Cult released their newest album called Cemetery Noise at the end of August and held an album release party in September. In October, the trio toured and performed throughout Florida including a Halloween show at the Kava Shack near Madeira Beach.

The Kava Shack was decorated with cobwebs and fake spiders for the Halloween theme. Smoke coming from various machines filled the room as colorful strobe lights flashed continuously above our heads. The Halloween decorations on the stage gave a “mom’s basement” vibe which looked aesthetic.

Treneff, Catrett and Moyer set up the drums and equipment as the audience waited on their toes. I got as close to Treneff as I could before the piercing sound of Catrett’s electric guitar blasted through the speakers, letting everyone know the show was about to begin.

The group collaborated nicely and had their own ways of communicating on stage. My first thought of the songs was, “Wow, the lead singer sounds so similar to Paramore.” I was shocked at the voice of Treneff, she sounded even better in person than she does electronically. With her engaging vocals and the balanced and crisp tones of the guitars, the entire audience was dancing and shouting every song lyric as well as getting quiet when the lead guitar begins with the raw and nasally electric blares. The performance was a euphoric experience and gave me chills with each song played.

The Peace Cult band put clear effort into the show. I would recommend their concerts to everyone; even those who are not fans of the pop-punk culture. Not only were the songs beautiful and exciting, but the happy crowd was also equally impressive.
