You never would’ve thought that someone making AI-generated videos of fruits in a reality TV drama would be true.
Yet the absurdity of that sentence is exactly what made people run towards it.
On TikTok, an account by the name “AI Cinema” has blew up in popularity, mainly for creating short clips of “animated strawberries” flirting, bananas cheating, and pineapples arguing.
The storyline is essentially the same but with obvious, overly dramatic and chaotic scenes. In these videos you can even debate your favorite character and vote someone out!
It seems like a weird joke, but it quickly turned into something out of control.
Though the account seemed to have gained overnight fame and over 3.1 million followers over a few weeks, people began to crack down on their use of AI to create these fake scenarios.
Videos started to disappear on their page due to people spam reporting in hopes of taking down AI.
Comment sections were being filled with criticism and flooded with hate.
I soon realized though, that although there were people so against these AI videos, there were far more people supporting the creator, defending them, and minimizing the damage that AI causes.
It was a very dark shift, people weren’t just watching these videos casually, they had grown attached. People are celebrating the use of AI because it entertains them, regardless of the consequences.
The thing is it isn’t just fruit character and dramatic storylines; it’s the type of content that has pushed back the fight against AI that’s been happening.
It weakens the conversation about the risks, with creatives like artists, writers, and creators speaking out against AI you’d think people would’ve got the memo by now, right?
No, not even the protests and debates warning us of artificial intelligence.
It’s very funny how when something even slightly entertaining appears like fruit arguing in a villa, all concern seems to disappear.
When people treat AI-generated content as something fun, it’s normalized everywhere. It started as silly fruit drama, but it could now expand into replacing real content creators or actors.
The way people are engaging with this content without questioning it will just encourage more people to push the same content.
The creator of AI Cinema has already created a new account due to all the hate they’ve received, in which the content contains, can you guess?
Yup, more AI, this time about a love triangle between a girl and two boys.
The way people support this creator just because of their ignorance is truly shocking, that people have gone as far as saying “it’s not that serious,” or “just ignore it if you don’t like.”
If society continues to treat AI as entertainment, and unserious, the risks will be much harder to sustain than they were before.
Fruit drama might sound silly but it’s not, when something is funny or dramatic, nothing else matters to people indulging in this content.
Entertainment cannot be an excuse, if we make it an excuse then the consequences are ignored and we just become mindless humans.
