Last month, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas finally went through, after almost two years of trying to achieve a level of peace between the two entities.
To continue holding the cease-fire, Vice President J.D. Vance traveled to Israel last Tuesday, and it is planned that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will follow suit.
The vice president has been in meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem.
People have been questioning the stability of the Ceasefire since the Vice President and Secretary of State have been sent to Israel.
Vance explained to reporters that the U.S. has been able to help Israel “Put the knife up to Hamas’s throat” and “isolate Hamas and the Arab and Muslim world.” In doing so, hostages have been released.
However, tensions between Hamas and Israel remain high, as Israel claims that Hamas violated the Cease-Fire terms this month, claiming that Hamas is behind the killing of two Israeli soldiers.
In response, Israel launched air strikes in the territory and cut off their aid.
Hamas still believes that Israel breached the Cease-Fire first.
The two entities continue to play a game of “He said, she said” as the ceasefire continues to hold.
Vance says that the presence of the U.S. in facilitating the ceasefire is paramount to the success of the Ceasefire. Vance even likened the process to “monitoring toddlers” as he told reporters.
Although the ceasefire now is quite fragile, there is still hope that Israel and Hamas will eventually reach a point of peace, so the death tolls can stop growing.
