Lakewood has a serious problem with bathrooms, and over the past few years it has not gotten better.
More students are saying the bathrooms to be unsanitary. From food in the bathroom to toilet paper everywhere, the bathrooms are viewed as one of the most unsanitary places on campus.
“It’s very important to keep it clean” said custodial staff Dorethia Patterson
Students seem to have lost the purpose of using the restrooms instead of using the toilets they like to eat, play, fight, and smoke. It is often reported that students find the bathrooms in ‘gross’, and ‘disgusting’ conditions.
Senior Gabrielle Mcaskill believes bathrooms should never be left in this condition “When I see the bathrooms I immediately get disgusted seeing trash, people smoking, stains everywhere.”
What changes could be made to make sure the bathrooms stay clean? A possibility that could be made is administration cracking down on bathroom usage time. Once a student is in the bathroom for more than 5 minutes administration should check on the student.
Another solution is students having the integrity to do the right thing and make sure they do their part in taking care of our restrooms
“Children need to grow up and act like responsible adults and clean up their messes,” said Patterson.
The bathrooms are cleaned every hour to make sure that it serves its purpose to be used in a proper manner. It is a student’s responsibility to make sure that students keep the bathrooms clean and make an effort to vibe. “Keeping the bathrooms, clean means keeping campus clean” says Patterson. Maintaining our campus isn’t just a job for one person, but a responsibility for everyone here.
