Key Club is a volunteering and service club that aims to help make a difference in local communities. It is an international organization and oversees thousands of local clubs around the world, and one of them is the very club available at Lakewood.
The club allows students to get involved in volunteering opportunities that benefit both them and the community they’re helping. This included food drives, park clean ups, clothing collection, etc.
The Key Club sponsor for Lakewood is Joshua Morris. He says some of his goals with the club are to “better the school campus and local community as well as providing service hours for students who need them for graduation or scholarships.”
This year, Key Club had a bit of a slow start. Some students were wondering why there was a delay and when the club would really get into action, but this was an entirely intentional decision. “A lot of the volunteer opportunities line up later in the year when it’s holiday season anyway, and I like to wait a while so the students can get any other extracurriculars scheduled before making the commitment to Key Club” says Morris.
Morris’s main goal for this year is making sure the whole school knows about Key Club. “We had so many people last year because we got the word out before the year started, but we didn’t get that same opportunity this year, so I’m going to make sure we get the word out and get students included as much as I can throughout the year” says Morris.
Overall, Key Club at Lakewood is looking to be in a great position going into Winter with various volunteering opportunities lined up, and students who are part of Key Club are excited to start making a difference in their own communities.
