After 11 years of teaching at Lakewood High School, history teacher Jessica Herring left, moving to Osceola High School.

Herring said made the switch because her parents moved to an assisted living facility about 10 minutes away from the school.

“I’m able to visit them a lot easier over on this part of the peninsula. Also, I was at Lakewood for the better part of a decade, so I figured everyone was sick of me and it was time to peace out,” said Herring, who teaches World History honors.

When it comes to Lakewood vs. Osceola students, Herring said her new school is a totally different ball game. She said the main difference between the two schools is that Osceola is on a seven-period-a-day schedule and Lakewood is on block schedule.

But she also said the students themselves are different.

“Osceola students are a little more academically minded. While they care about sports and stuff, their studies tend to come first,” she said.

Still, Herring said, she misses a lot of things about Lakewood

“The people … I miss seeing the teachers every day and cracking jokes with them over lunch. I miss the awesome camaraderie that the Lakewood faculty has. And, of course, I miss the Lakewood Academic Team. You guys rock!” she said.
