The college football championship just happened, and the unreal movie-like story that came out of it is not being talked about enough.
Indiana Hoosier played the Maimi Hurricane on Jan 19 Monday night. Indiana’s starting quarterback, Fernando Mendoza really took the show. Fernando grew up super close to the Maimi Hurricane stadium and really wanted to go and play for that school; they rejected him. He ended up taking an offer from the Hoosier as a two star and never looked back.
He did something no one has ever done before. Led his team to a 16-0 season, won the Heisman (equivalent to winning the MVP award) and brought the Hoosiers to the championship for the first time in 59 years. Just to play the school that rejected him in the final game. Over the season Fernando Mendoza gained a lot of fans due to his charismatic and easy to like personality and his under-dog story. So many people began to root for him, including Lil Uzi Vert, which was out of nowhere.
Another thing to note about him is that his mother, who attends all his games, has multiple sclerosis which causes her to use a wheelchair. He gave his mother credit in his Heisman speech saying she is the reason he is always positive.
The game was nothing short of a movie. Indiana led at the start but not by a lot Maimi continued to fight. That’s when Fernando Mendoza ran and dove into the end zone to seal the game for the Hoosiers.
Needless to say, this was a crazy and unforgettable game and season for Mrs. Mendoza and great things are definitely coming his way, now that he is entering the 2026 NFL draft.
