As we come into the new school year, we worry about many things that will affect us later in our academic career such as the classes we take. For example, AP Seminar which is now a course requirement for sophomores.
As expected, not all students are a fan of the new required course, but the pros certainly outweigh the cons. AP Seminar is a class that heavily assists in English to the fact that states such as New York, California, and Texas are integrating the coursework into 10th grade English classes.
AP Seminar allows you to write research-based essays in various academic disciplines and enhances your public speaking skills as you are required to present about your topic, research methodologies, and solutions.
“I personally like the class, and I believe it is a good idea to make it a requirement for upcoming sophomores. It’s an easy AP course and a great start for sophomores who did not take an AP course their freshman year,” Junior Ndey Barrow said.
Not only that, but with the AP Seminar passage rate of 89 percent, many students go on to take AP Research. Students take the skills they learned from AP Seminar and enhance onto it, focusing on one research topic throughout the school year.
“I liked my AP seminar experience. It helps you gain essay writing skills, and it allows you to learn PowerPoint. I believe this class will teach upcoming sophomores how to respond to difficult writing tasks and raise English scores.” Senior Devin Walls said.
As someone who has taken both AP Seminar and AP Research, I would recommend it to everyone. It helps you apply multiple perspectives to certain academic disciplines, be a better writer, and practice your public speaking skills, something many students are not comfortable with.
