“I want to finish a book I made called Poetry Novella before I graduate high school,” Chanel Williams said.

As graduation time approaches, we reflect on all the seniors leaving, particularly our friends. Let’s take time to reflect on one of the most well-known seniors, Chanel Williams, and her time spent here at Lakewood High School.

Williams is the 2023-2024 Senior Class President, President of the SAVE Promise Club, Founder of Lakewood Society (poetry club), Student Director of Drama Club, and Vice President of SGA.

Throughout middle school and high school, Williams was an active student. Williams is actively involved because she tries to find things that interest her and allow her to have fun throughout school.

One of Williams’ biggest priorities as a student leader is trying to make student voices heard. Williams can make student voices heard through her governmental positions and slam poetry performances.

As Williams reflects on her time spent here at Lakewood a couple of her biggest accomplishments include founding the Lakewood poetry club, becoming senior class president, and taking dual enrollment classes through SPC.

Being a student at whatever school you’re at, you are targeted for change within yourself and the school that you’re attending. Let’s dive into how Lakewood has affected Williams and vice versa.

“Lakewood has given me opportunities to showcase my talent and get college credits. I’ve affected Lakewood because I try to be a student advocate for change and expression,” Williams said.

As students are leaving Lakewood and new students approach Lakewood, a piece of encouragement Williams has for new students is “Have fun and take advantage of all opportunities given to you. If there’s no opportunity given, make it,” Williams said.

As Williams departures many are wondering what is next? After high school Williams plan to attend college and get a PhD in English to become an English Professor in the near future.

Administrators and teachers that Williams would like to shout out that have helped her throughout her journey consist of Erika Miller, Elizabeth Halstead, Heather Robinson, Erika Dickerson, and many others.
