Lakewood holds drive-by celebration
Lakewood Drive-Through Graduation
May 28, 2020
Black and gold balloons decorated the front of the school as a disc jockey blasted music, and teachers and staff, holding plastic noisemakers, cheered for each passing car. Lakewood High School has not been able to hold a typical graduation this year because of the lock-down due to COVID-19, but the staff was still determined to celebrate each senior. At a drive-by celebration on May 22 at Lakewood, about 200 seniors received bags, which included their caps and gowns, any awards, trophies and certificates they had won and a drawstring bag of gifts. “I think it was awesome,” principal Erin Savage said. “I loved the energy from the faculty and staff for the entire two hours. I also loved the fact that the students and parents seemed genuinely happy and appreciative of what we did.” If you were not able to pick up your bag, you still can get it by emailing Savage at [email protected].

by far, my favorite news story. I was actually there with my sister, Jasmine. They were handing out ice cream too, so that was fun.
