Netflix’s new movie The Wrong Paris is a romantic comedy with a funny twist. Instead of going to Paris, France, the main character ends up in Paris, Texas by mistake. That mistake sets up a story that mixes laughs, love, and some reality show drama.
The movie is about Dawn, played by Miranda Cosgrove. She signs up for a dating show thinking she will get to see Paris, France, but the show actually takes her to a small town in Texas. While there, she meets Trey, played by Pierson Fodé. Their relationship slowly becomes the best part of the movie and gives it more heart than you might expect.
I thought the movie was fun to watch. It makes fun of dating shows with all the dramatic pauses, silly challenges, and some wild characters. Some parts feel a little crowded because there are too many side characters, but the main love story is still strong. The movie moves quickly, which keeps it from getting boring, though it could have used a few slower moments to focus on the main couple.
The behind-the-scenes details are also interesting. Even though the movie takes place in Texas, it was mostly filmed in Vancouver, Canada. The cast had to film in the rain and mud even though the final scenes look warm and sunny. One funny scene with mud wrestling was actually filmed during a heavy storm. Pierson Fodé even did some of his own stunts, which makes those parts feel more real.
Since The Wrong Paris is a Netflix release, it did not go to theaters, so there are no box office numbers. Still, it was very popular. In its second week, it hit number one on Netflix with more than 21 million views. Critics gave mixed reviews. Some thought it was a fun and cute movie, while others said it did not have much depth.
For me, the movie was enjoyable even if it was not perfect. The plot can feel messy at times, but the humor and the chemistry between the two leads make it worth watching. I would give it a 7 out of 10 because it is funny, light, and entertaining, even if it is not the most original romantic comedy out there. It is a good pick if you want something easy to watch on a weekend.
