The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans. This victory was significant for the Eagles because they had lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years earlier. The win also stopped Kansas City from achieving a rare three-peat, winning three championships consecutively.
The Eagles started strong, with quarterback Jalen Hurts leading a quick touchdown drive. Hurts had an outstanding game, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 72 yards and scored another touchdown on the ground. His impressive performance earned him the Super Bowl MVP award.
Philadelphia’s defense played a huge role in the victory. They put constant pressure on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, sacking him six times and forcing three turnovers, two interceptions, and a fumble. One of the game’s biggest moments came when Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean intercepted a Mahomes pass and returned it for a touchdown.
Mahomes, usually calm and in control, struggled in this game. In the first half, he completed only 6 of 14 passes for 33 yards and threw two interceptions. The Chiefs also had trouble converting on third downs, failing on their first nine attempts.
On offense, the Eagles’ strong offensive line gave Hurts plenty of time to make plays. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown played key roles, with Smith catching a 46-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Running back Saquon Barkley had a tough time running the ball, gaining only 57 yards on 25 carries, but the Eagle’s mix of passing and running plays kept the Chiefs’ defense off balance.
The Chiefs tried to make a comeback in the second half, with Mahomes throwing two touchdown passes to rookie Xavier Worthy, who had a record-setting 157 receiving yards. However, the Eagles’ lead was too big to overcome.
With this win, the Eagles claimed their second Super Bowl title in team history. Head coach Nick Sirianni and his team played a nearly perfect game, stopping the Chiefs from continuing their dynasty and proving that Philadelphia was one of the top teams in the NFL.
