Students from Lakewood High School visited St. Petersburg College/Gibbs campus for the FAMU presidential hosted by St. Petersburg College (SPC) on Nov. 20. This field trip consisted of multiple high schools throughout Pinellas County to see what FAMU has to offer.
When students arrived, they were greeted by FAMU students, alumni, and soon-to-be transfer students who are currently enrolled in the IGNITE program at SPC.
Shortly after that, students toured the SPC Student Success Center, which consisted of the different programs offered at FAMU. Each setup had students and professors, offering many diverse perspectives for high school students to learn about.
After touring the different programs all the high schools gathered in the auditorium for speeches and a play by the FAMU connection. The FAMU connection is a group of student artists who assist in recruiting students to FAMU through entertainment.
Interim President Timothy L. Beard had a very impactful speech. He talked about his education experience at FAMU and Florida State University (FSU) and stressed the importance of academic excellence as FAMU looks for well-rounded students.
“…It was fun to talk to students and staff who could help me in deciding what college I would like to go to as well as what I would like to possibly major in…” Junior Gabby Wright Said.
