Last year, Senior Keegan Cunningham was asked by one of his friends Senior Khristian Miller to help him with a superhero story. Cunningham asked his friend Nate Cortez to illustrate the Comic and he agreed, as long as Cunningham wrote it.

So, Cunningham worked on the story throughout the summer and decided to form a club revolving around the comic, as he wanted not just help with the Comic but also to include other people’s ideas.

Currently, the club is working on a massive PowerPoint presentation consisting of character designs and descriptions to assist in the writing of the comic. Cunningham has written the first three issues and is currently working on the fourth issue with the club. Members of the club can do a variety of roles such as Character Creation, Worldbuilding, Origin stories/personalities, and artists.

The first issue of the comic focuses on the origin of the main character while the second issue is like the first but introduces another origin story focusing on another character. Being introduced in the third issue was a big battle that introduced the world of the story, expanding the scale of prior issues of the comic.
Although the club is new it has around 12 members who meet after school on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. through 3:30 pm In C-103.

“Sometimes kids will come up to me and give me a 500-word story, that I didn’t even ask for. They’re just excited to come up with their own ideas and get them out there which I love to see,” Cunningham said.

A short-term goal Cunningham has for the club is to get the first issue out, with an end goal of releasing the fourth issue by the end of the school year in a digital format so that students have the opportunity to read it.

Comic club is great for students looking to be a part of a club community that is fun without having to complete a lot of work. You can show up, give a simple idea, enjoy some snacks and work with a couple of other members but for the most part you are able to work at your own pace.
