Media Specialist Dennis Russo decided to extend his library to the students at Lakewood High School so they could have a cool place to eat and escape from the Florida heat.
In September, Russo started planning what he would do with lunch, so he created new rules and a new group called “Lunch Bunch.” Lunch Bunch started on Tuesday and will continue for the rest of the school year.
Lunch Bunch was created to allow students to eat lunch without the loud crowds they would get in the Spartan Café also to limit the number of students that would horseplay he created passes that had to be approved by him.
In my opinion, I think that it’s a good idea and it’s thoughtful of all the students that want quiet during lunch. Also, Russo wanted to limit the amount of mess that would be left during lunch.
On Monday students were to scan a QR code during lunch to be eligible for a Lunch Bunch pass, Russo then sent out passes for teachers to give to students. Students without a pass will not be able to enter the media center during lunch.
A little bit of background on why this is such a great thing for students is because ALMA teacher Philip Muszynski always allowed us to eat and have a place of fun. That all changed at the end of last year when he announced he would be leaving the school. All students who had a solid place to eat lunch now had to find a new place for the upcoming school year.
In my opinion, Russo is a good person for this he listened to the students and understood our point of view and he did what he thought was best and it turned it great.
In my overall opinion, I think it’s a great idea, the students who just want to eat lunch can do that with all the chaos that we would get in the lunchroom. The Lunch Bunch is great because not everyone can get in since it is technically a group so there’s a capacity.
