The movie of the summer! Everyone was going to their local movie theater fully dressed in pink ready for what the Barbie movie had to offer. Many were excited to see their childhood toy up on the big screen.
With many live action movies of childhood cartoons not living up to the standards of what viewers had in mind, many were ready to judge Barbie and see if it was what the fans wanted.
Even though Barbie was not what everyone thought it would be, it was what they needed. Many left the theater in tears of what they had just watched, not because it was sad, but because it validated what women have been experiencing for years.
The Barbie movie addressed the obvious struggles of modern-day women in society that no one wanted to talk about. Barbie made women of all ages feel seen, like what they are going through is not being ignored or brushed to the side.
But not only did Barbie talk about hard topics, but it was light at the same time. With amazing choreography, catchy songs and iconic outfits Barbie was everything fans imagined her to be and more.
And of course, there was Ken. Ken went through a lot. By going through a roller coaster of emotions both Ken and Barbie find out who they are and what they are made to do.
By watching their favorite childhood toy go through the same struggles that they go through daily really validates them, because even Barbie can’t be perfect all the time and that’s okay.
Although not everyone is loving the way Barbie displayed men throughout the film. Many thought the movie was “anti-men” because of the way that men were accused of causing many of the problems women must deal with today. In Barbie land all the women control everything, so many of the man feel left out or pushed to the side, how many women feel today.
The film director, Greta Gerwig, wanted to showcase to the audience how women feel daily while also encapsulating the wonderful aura that the classical Barbie emulates.
This film brings you through every emotion: sympathy, happiness, gratitude, warmth and even sadness. No matter who watches the film, everyone has something to gain from it.
